Fayette Dragon
The case of the Fayette Dragon was reported to Fortean researcher, Stan Gordon. It happened in Fayette
County Pennsylvania on March 18, 2012.
At 11:45 a man took his dog out to the front yard to relieve the animal. The night was cold and silent, without
any other animals moving about. That silence was then broken by the sound of flapping wings coming from a
large creature. The man saw a shadow pass over his house, about 50 feet up. It was 22 feet long, with an 18
foot wingspan. As the beast flew over the man’s house it triggered the motion lights, illuminating it entirely.
It was then that the man got a look at the strange creature.
He reported that it looked like a dragon. It had a reptilian head, with a row of spikes under its jaw. There was
a cone-like fin sprouting from the back of its head and over the neck. Its arms were attached to its wings, and
ended in four clawed fingers. The wing membrane was thick and muscular, unlike that of a bat. The hind legs
trailed behind the creature. Above the hind legs were an extra set of triangular fins. It had a long lizard like tail,
which ended in an arrowhead like shape. The whole creature was a dark auburn color, and very shiny. It was
smooth and scaleless. The thing the man found most notable about the creature was its eyes and mouth were
illuminated with an orange light.
As the creature disappeared back into the darkness it let out a roar that sounded similar to a fog horn. The whole
encounter only took 30 seconds and it was over. The man had never seen a creature like this before and it never
returned again.
It’s of note that Fayette county is part of the Chestnut Ridge, an area of Pennsylvania well known for high
strangeness
While no one else from Fayette County reported a similar creature, there was a strange encounter in neighboring
Washington County on April 23 of the same year. This was also reported to Stan Gordon.
Some time between 20:30 and 1:00 at night, a man heard a strange growling from outside. He and his wife got
up and looked out the window for the source of the noise.
They spotted the silhouette of what looked like a deer standing in the nearby creek outside their window. The
couple questioned why a deer would be standing in the middle of a creek and if a deer could even make the
growling sounds they had heard. One thing the man noted was the deer’s eyes appeared to reflect too much
light for what could have been present at the time, and in a strange amber color.
The man said he was going outside to check on the situation. As soon as he said that, before even leaving his
position at the window, the strange creature leapt up from its position and flew off into the sky, at what the
couple described as an alarming speed.
While the description of the second creature fits more closely with the Jersey Devil (which is sometimes spotted
in Pennsylvania as well) it’s odd that it occurred so soon after the dragon sighting and in a nearby location.

When I was a kid, I think about 6 or 7, I was almost certain I saw a dragon in the sky one early morning on the ride to school. I remember it looking a darker shade of orange/red than the rest of the sunrise-colored sky, with fin-like wings and a diamond-shaped tail; only, I recall the wings being more like tattered cloth at the ends, with loose skin. I only saw it for a glimpse before my view was obscured by a building. When I could see the sky again, it was gone. ... I'm 98% certain it was a cloud nowadays, and I just wasn't fully awake yet (on top of being absolutely obsessed with dragons at the time). For further context, it occurred around 2006-2007 in Germany, which is much earlier and geographically pretty far away from this sighting. Still, I hadn't heard of this creature before, and this reminded me of that dragon I saw!
