Ceratopsian Salamanders of Honduras

Image
Cryptozoologist Chad Arment wrote about a mystery animal from Honduras in his Biofortean Notes, Volume 5 While attending a cryptozoology conference Chad heard second hand stories about a missionary working in Honduras who had seen a strange creature. After extensive searching he was able to track her down. The woman didn’t want to be identified, and is only known by her initials LS in the report. She had no interest in anything fortean or paranormal. As well, she had only told people about the encounter a few times shortly after it happened in 2001, and then moved on with her life. She has never tried to profit off the encounter or tried to widely publicize it. These qualities together convinced Chad Arment that she was a reliable witness. The sighting happened on the mission’s farmland in Cort é s Department, Honduras. The landscape was along a mountain river, with cleared pasture on one side and jungle on the other. The time was between late morning and noon. LS was d...

Lake Ontario Monsters

Image
Lake Ontario has had it's share of monster sightings over the year. Every sighting has been drastically different, which doesn't help the credibility of this monster. Yet the different forms it takes have been fascinating. Many of the sightings have been concentrated around the shores of Kingston, which has given the monster or monsters the name Kingsie. There are more sightings than I can list here, so I will only cover the most interesting. While sightings occurred before this point, the earliest that was given a definite date happened in July 3 rd , 1817, where a ship's crew saw a giant snake like creature in the water. It was one foot in diameter and 30 to 40 feet long. The name of the ship or the crew members who witnessed the event was not given. On July 1 st , 1833, Captain Kellogg and his crew on the Polythermus saw a giant worm like creature. It was blue in color and had no obvious head, tapering to a point at both ends. The creature swam by the ship in a smooth ...

River Dinos

Image
River dinos are small, featherless, dinosaur like creatures. They look like smaller versions of large carnivorous dinosaurs, such as allosaurus or tyrannosaurus, although they are described as having long necks on occasion. There's no report of raptor claws on their feet. Another dinosaur these creatures are often compared to is compsognathus, or at least its depictions in movies. These dinos come in quite a size range, from two feet to five feet tall. Although none of them are as large as the large carnosaurs they're often compared to. These creatures are most often seen in the four corners region, but have been seen all over each of those states, and as far away as Texas and Oklahoma. They are most often seen around river valleys, ponds and other sources of water, hence the name river dinos. Although they're also called mini-rexes and prairie devils. While I believe witnesses are seeing an unknown creature I'm certain it's not a living dinosaur tracing it's...

Nigerian Fire Spitter

Image
The Nigerian Fire Spitter was a small cryptid which emerged from a uranium mine in Arlit, Nigeria in 1984. The creature was some sort of dragon like reptile. It had a crocodilian head, long neck. It had a dog like body and stood on erect legs which ended in clawed, reptilian feet. It had a long lizard like tail. There was also a row of spines running down its back. The fire spitter was small, being comparable to a dog in size. The small size made people at the time assume it was only a juvenile. The fire spitter gains its name from its ability to shoot flames from its mouth, much like a flame thrower. Cryptozoologists like to assume that the creature was some sort of relic spinosaurid, even the original email about the creature makes this assumption. However the spines on its back were horn like spikes, and did not have any flesh fin or muscular hump surrounding them. Also there's the whole fire breathing part. But as you will see by the end of this article, there was a reason...
