Rare Monsters

 Wisconsin is known for many cryptid sightings. Most famously the beast of Bray Road, one of the most famous dogman sightings. Although Wisconsin is also home to bigfoot, lake monsters, and even dragons, the latter I have covered in this blog before. Two other monsters which are occasionally sighted in Wisconsin are lizard men, which are far more famous from the Scape Ore swamp of South Carolina, and giant bat human hybrids, the most famous being Batsquatch of Washington state. While these cryptids may be more commonly associated to other places, Wisconsin still has their share of them. And unique to Wisconsin is what appears to be a hybrid of the two, a winged lizard man.  Medford Flying Lizard Man  In 1997, sometime at night, a warden for the DNR was driving along highway 13, south of Medford.   Guissepe Zitella and his family were on an outing together in Pettorano sul Gizio, Itally. It was June 20 th , 1993. Mr Zitella was there with his wife Concetta, and his brother and his family. Mr Zitella was a retired air force officer. One article says he was a marshal, while another says he was a non-commissioned officer, so who know what his rank actually was. They were sitting at a restaurant patio when the brother’s wife saw something fly by, about 100 meters away, over some short trees. She pointed it out to the rest of the family. To Mr. Zitella, it looked like a balloon, a large one that would usually be won at a carnival. Mr Zitella decided to chase after the balloon and capture it for his nephew.   Butler county Gargoyle was a winged cryptid seen by several witnesses in Butler County, Pennsylvania during 2011. First witness was a businessman known only as RK. He saw the monster several different occasions. Rk described the monster has being overall humanoid in shape. It had brown or tan leathery skin. The face was small and punched in, with almond shaped eyes that were pointed at the ends. The head was swept back and came to a point at the back, similar to a performance bicycle helmet. The creature also had ears that were long and swept back to points which pointed to the back of the head. The body was very muscular. The arms were longer than a human’s and ended in hands with four fingers and sharp claws. It had very muscular legs, with knees that pointed back in the opposite direction from normal.   Most people have heard of the Chicago mothman sightings that happened between 2011 and 2018. Occurring among those events was as strange variation of flying humanoid. This isn't that surprising however, as the original Point Pleasant mothman flap involved many strange sightings of UFOs and creatures besides just the mothman itself, This sighting happened in 2015 in Howard Heights Illinois, a small town located near Chicago. Greg, no last name given, was coming home at 1:30 am,  from a late shift at work. He first spotted the monster when he pulled into his driveway. The creature was standing motionless in his backyard.  Overall the creature looked similar to mothman. It was black all over and had wings instead of arms, with an overall human frame. Although the body was  disproportionately small and its head disproportionately big.   A striga is a vampire like demon from Slavic and Polish folklore. It has owl like features, such as feathers, golden eyes and bird like talons. It can also shape shift into an owl at will. Strigas are strictly nocturnal, coming out at night to feast on the blood and flesh of the living. A striga comes from a person, usually female, that was born with two souls. This person will have various signs that they have two souls, usually having duplicated body parts, such as having two rows of teeth or two heartbeats. If this person is found out in life, they will be cast out of society to go die in the wilderness. If they're not found out they will continue to live like a normal person while they're still alive. On death one of the souls moves onto the afterlife while the other stays trapped in the body. When this happens the stiga begins to transform.   The bat beast of Kent was a vaguely mothman like cryptid seen in the English county of Kent. The bat beast was seen in 1963, three years before the infamous events that took place in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The incident took place near the Saltwood forest, which are known for paranormal strangeness before the incident. The incident being alternately known as the Saltwood ghost and the Hythe mothman, after the nearby village of Hythe. The bat beast overall resembles mothman, but completely lacks a head, eyes or any facial features. It's body is egg shaped and covered in black fur. The wings emerge from the shoulders in place of arms. Oddly the creature also has webbed feet at the end of human like legs. The creature was approximately five feet tall.   The manananggal is a vampiric monster from the Philippines. It is most often found in the Visayan region of the country. The manananggal is found both in older folk lore and modern cryptid reports. It is typically seen in rural areas, flying over rice fields and small villages, and it's believed that city lights may harm the monster, as does daylight. Manananggals are flying human torsos. They are almost always female. During the day manananggals are attached to a set of legs and hide their wings, blending in with the human population. At night they go through a transformation, growing bat wings, long claws and a proboscis like tongue, and separating their torso off from their hips and legs. The head, arms and torso then fly off into the night with their bat wings to find victims to consume. Manananggals only have power at night in the darkness.   In October of 1903 the town of Van Meter in Iowa had multiple encounters with a strange, bird like cryptid, which was later nick named the Van Meter Visitor. The creature had leathery, featherless skin, a bird like head with a beak filled with teeth and leathery bat like wings. The most unusual feature of the cryptid was that it had a glowing horn jutting out from the center of its forehead. Some people reported seeing a more humanoid creature, which stood upright, and had its arms replaced by bat like wings. While others reported a more animalistic and pteranodon like being. Whichever version they saw, people consistently reported the same details about its strange head.
