Alzada Monkey Spider
The Alzada anomalies are one of the most bizarre and over the top cases of high strangeness. It happened during the month of July, 1974, in the unincorporated community of Alzada, Montana. A man and a woman, their relation not specified, were hunting for some caved used by ancient Native Americans. They were search for artifacts, although their intent for the artifacts and the legality of their hunt was never specified. The report was originally submitted to MUFON, but languished in obscurity.
Alzada itself could barely be considered a community. In modern times it’s home to less than 30 people, with only slight more in the seventies when this took place. The landscape itself is semiarid ranch land and bad lands, filled with rough terrain and canyons.
The two of them were staying in a rented cabin while they were on their search in Alzada. The strangeness started as they returned to the cabin after a fruitful days search around the caves. The first signs of something wrong was the sound of metal clanging seemingly coming from their cabin, which they heard on exiting their car. After checking out the cabin for the sound it became clear it was actually coming from beyond the trees behind the cabin. Now there was also flashing lights off in the distance behind the trees as well.
The couple ventured passed the trees to a gully clearing on the other side. There they saw clanging metallic drum like objects that were the source of both the sounds and lights. On the ground, around the drum like objects, were what the couple at first assumed were large sand bags. However they soon noticed the faint outlines of motionless humanoid bodies within the bags. On this realization, the two people ran back through the trees towards their car.
They had every intent to drive off away from these terrifying scene they had just witnessed. However, on reaching the car the two of them saw a pair of golden, glowing eyes inside the car, hovering in mid are and not attached to any body. The eyes moved back and forth in the vehicle, looking out the windows at them.
The couple was so panicked they ran into the ranch lands, away from both their car and cabin. As they ran one of them suggested sheltering in an abandoned house about two miles away. However before they could reach it, they witnessed something else which terrified them. Hopping up and down on top a hay bail was the monkey spider. It was about three and a half feet tall. It looked monkey like, other than having long fangs, and six legs; four arms and two legs to be precise. The monkey spider snarled at them and acted aggressively.
The couple turned and ran. The monkey spider gave chase. They ran back to their cabin with the monkey spider close at their heels. They reached the cabin in a frantic panic. They managed to get inside and slam the door right before the monkey spider reached them. They locked themselves in and hoped the shelter would protect them from the insanity happening outside.
One of them looked out the window towards the tree line and saw lights flashing erratically on the other side of the trees where the trouble began. On the other side of the cabin the monkey spider was clawing at the window, trying to get at them.
As the couple watched out the back window a group of 20 small humanoids walked out from the trees in single file. They were also about three and a half feet tall and wore white coveralls. They approached the cabin diagonally, coming closer but not directly to it. As they came closer, two of the beings broke off from the marching line. They crawled along the ground towards the cabin.
It was at this point the couple felt an overwhelming desire to go outside and welcome the coverall wearing beings. The couple couldn’t explain why they felt this. They went out of the cabin, completely ignoring the threat of the monkey spider from earlier. The metallic clanging and flashing lights were now even louder and brighter than earlier. The woman approached the two crawling beings first. As she did they said nothing and started shuffling backwards away from the couple. It was then that the woman noticed the small beings had no facial features whatsoever. Terrified she went back to her male accomplice and demanded they go back inside the cabin again. He pointed out the glowing golden eyes from earlier was now watching them from the tree line. They were filled with an overwhelming feeling of fear on seeing the eyes again and ran back inside. The two of them kept out of view of the windows and huddled in fear, waiting for the strange occurrences to leave.
After several hours the beings and clanging had vanished. They had now been replaced by a loud whooshing sound. The couple looked out the windows again. There were black, miniature train like objects flying above the cabin in a circle outside. Each time they passed they made a loud whoosh. The trains disappeared and a new light show from beyond the trees started again. An impossibly bright star light object hovered over the area beyond the trees. From it dazzling sparks fell downward, flashing out before reaching the ground. This was followed by red flashes coming from the bright star and then a spotlight like beam shining down on the ground beyond the trees, where the drum like objects had originally been seen.
On the opposite side the first light of the sun began to appear. There was a deafening whoosh and the light beyond the trees disappeared. In the light of the morning the couple was left in a seemingly normal world again. The grass around their cabin, from the direction the overall wearing beings had come has remained flattened down, proving to them that these events had actually happened and it wasn’t all a bad dream. They got in their car and sped off, never to return to this place again.
I won’t even try to guess at the cause of the events that night. It’s one of those cases that combines all forms of high strangeness together. One thing I think we can take away from this is don’t mess with Native American ruins. Whether it be from a curse or just basic human decency, leave those sort of things alone.
