Las Vegas Backyard Aliens

On May 1sts 2023 Angel Kenmore and his family encountered alien beings in their back yard after they witnessed a fireball crash into the same back yard. The family’s encounters with these beings terrified them so they called the police. A few days later Angel posted a video where he talked about his encounter. As well a recorded by Angels mother, and posted by either Angel or his brother was uploaded to Tik Tok showing their family entering the back yard and quickly running back out again after seeing the aliens hiding within. These two videos launched the incident into internet virality for a short period of time. But just as quickly as the events became popular, holes started appearing in Angel’s story and odd new details about the family being haunted came forth, causing many to believe the whole thing was a hoax, causing people to lose interest in the story. Yet there are strange details in the account which can’t be written off so easily.

The Events:

Around 11:45 a bluish green meteor flew over the Vegas skies. This was witnessed by many people and was caught on the chest cam of one police officer during a traffic stop. Angel claims that a green fireball landed in his back yard. When it hit the ground it changed to several different colours and went out. As well, it released some sort fog into the yard.

Angel and his brother were working on repair a car at the time. They stopped what they were doing and went into the back yard to investigate. There they saw a nine foot tall alien, with greenish grey skin, large slitted eyes and a large mouth with sharp teeth. The alien was very skinny. Angel also said it appeared to be injured with a broken leg.

Angel and his brother ran into the house and told their parents, who didn’t believe them at first. However strange sounds coming from the back yard convinced the rest of his family to at least go outside and see what was going on.

Angel and his family went into the back yard, armed with guns, while his mother stayed at the back of the group and filmed the events on her phone. This is the origin of the Tik Tok video. During this time all three men (Angel, his brother and his father) all spotted an alien hiding behind a fork lift in the back yard, causing them to run out the gate and close it. It’s important to note the back yard was a large gravel work area with a vehicle repair business, not a grassy suburban yard.

The three witnesses said the aliens were transparent and partially cloaked. I find this similar to the numerous Glimmer Man sightings, which shows cloaking similar to the special effects seen in the Predator movies, something that is seen in many fortean accounts. The internet interpreted the partial visibility of the aliens being that their cloaking tech was somewhat broken from the crash and there for not fully functional. In the Tik Tok video there is a strange blur at the top right of the video which people have interpreted to be one of the aliens, but more on that later. The father of the family also said he saw the alien had two stalk like protrusions on its head that ended in glowing lights, where as Angel saw one light hovering near the alien’s head. There were said to be three aliens in total.

At this point the family was sufficiently scared to call the police. This was at 12:30 am. A 911 call was made by Angel, where he describes the aliens.

Half an hour later police arrive. They stayed four around 45 minutes. First they took testimony from the witnesses. Then they went into the back yard and looked around. The police spotted a circle in the gravel and Angel said that’s where the fireball landed. However the police at no point saw the aliens and decided that whatever had caused the incident had left. Then after this the police talked with the family in the front yard. The police believed the family’s story and even said that one of their colleagues had seen the fireball for himself earlier. The family themselves look shaken up and genuinely afraid at the start, but by the end put at ease by the police presence. After talking with the family the police leave. Notably, the 16 minutes of the police body cam video while they were in the back yard was redacted and has never surfaced on the internet.

According to Angel, later that night, the strange sounds in the back yard started again. In addition to that footsteps could now be heard walking around on top the roof of the house. The family became frightened again, but didn’t call the police back for whatever reason.

A few days later either Angel or his brother uploaded the mother’s phone video to Tik Tok. A few days after that when the Tik Tok video had gained significant attention Angel made a longer video of him sitting in his house and explaining his experiences that night. In the end of that video he said he would make a part 2, but that never happened.

Later Events:

Days and weeks after the initial night strange things continued to happen to the Kenmore family. It’s hard for me to determine the exact time frame of these events, so I’ll break them up in type, rather than chronological order. Just know I don’t know when each of these happened and I only know a rough order of events for the men in black and police investigation stuff.

There were a number of paranormal events that happened around the house, which sound like a haunting, rather than anything alien related. It’s unknown which order any of these occurred in, just that they fall between the events of May 1st and when they did an interview with Inside Addition.

One event was when Angel’s brother called him into his room. There the cross had come off the wall and was hovering up-side-down in mid air. The Jesus statue on the cross was then ripped off and thrown at them with force. The two brothers went running out of the room.

In another incident a bible inside the house suddenly started flipping through pages, even though there were no windows open or other sources of wind to move it.

Another seemingly paranormal incident involved Angel seeing a small child like shadow figure outside the washroom window as he took a shower. When he got out, he went outside to where the figure had been and saw a chalk drawing on the walkway depicting the events of May 1st. This happened before the majority of the interviews and before Angel and his family became harassed by trespassers.

It was during and after these paranormal incidents that Angel started to believe the beings he had seen May 1st were actually demons, rather than aliens.

There was also seemingly bizarre police involvement as well, the majority of which the Las Vegas police denied they were involved with.

One such incident involved what looked like a large police drone hovering over the back yard. Angel described it as being larger the commercial drones, and having a stripe along its side and flashing red and blue lights similar to a police car. The Vegas police denied having a drone like that and that they used ordinary off the shelf drones which were smaller and black in colour.

As well, one night two people dressed as and claiming to be police officers came to the family’s house. They asked them questions about the events of May 1sts, threatened them not to talk to anyone and took the clothing the family had warn that night as part of their investigation. These police officers never showed their badges and Angel said there was something ‘off’ about their uniforms and appearances but he couldn’t specify what. When the family called the police department to complain about how they had been treated the police denied sending anyone out there. These unknown police had apparently talked to several other people in the neighbourhood as well, albeit with a less threatening tone.

Another noteworthy incident was when Angel saw a black SUV stop in front of his house. There were three men in black inside. Each one looked identical. All were bald, and had dark sunglasses on. All three of them moved in unison, turning their heads to look at Angel. At that point Angel went back inside.

During Paul Poppa’s investigation there was a large standing lamp post camera that had been set up in the back yard. Paul asked Angel about it, and Angel said the police had put it there. Paul investigated the matter and found out the camera had actually been put there by Homeland Security’s anti-terrorist unit. Angel said he had been told the cameras were put up for his family’s safety. Yet the cameras were removed on May 23rd, before the story hit national news and the family began being harassed and trespassed on, when they would have needed the cameras the most.

Likewise, while Paul Poppa was interviewing Angel, Angel received a phone call from a woman who asked him to get Paul’s license plate number. When Paul asked Angel who this woman was Angel said she was a reported. Paul investigated this woman and found to be an agent for Homeland Security.

Finally on June 7th KLAS, a Las Vegas new channel, reported on the events, spreading the story to a national audience. Even though the Tik Tok and Youtube videos had already become viral within limited internet circles, it was this news broadcast that truly ignited interest in the events. This was when the harassment of the Kenmore family reached a breaking point. People started harassing the family whenever they were out in public, and trespassing on their land to look for evidence. This came from believers and skeptics alike. At this point the family shrunk back from public view. While they had already been selective about giving interviews they refused to do any more after this point. As well the family had to hire a lawyer to deal with the harassment and unwanted attention.

There was also an interesting incident that happened some time before May 1st. A mysterious woman had approached Angel and some of his friends at a gas station. She had called Angel over by name. She told Angel that there would soon be ten foot tall demons coming to Las Vegas to eat everyone’s babies. The woman’s presence made Angel uncomfortable so Angel and his friends quickly left. Meeting loonies at a gas station is nothing new, what’s noteworthy is how close her predictions come to the very tall aliens Angel saw.

Analysis

So what are we to make of this story. Watching the interviews Angel did before he and his family went quiet it becomes clear that his story is inconsistent and he changes details with each interview. He also tells stories out of order and is inconsistent with times and the order of events. This usually indicates someone who’s lying. Most people who have been greatly frightened by a fortean incident retail the details consistently.

In addition to this the circle in the back yard, where according to Angel the fire ball landed has been a point of contention. The circle originally came to Angel’s attention when the police pointed it out and Angel said that’s where the fire ball landed. However people using Google Maps found that the circle in Angel’s back yard had been there for a year before the events on May 1st. This led to many people writing off the events as a hoax on Angel’s part. As well, there was a photograph of the circle Angel uploaded to the internet of the circle, which he says he took while talking to the police in the back yard. Yet the time stamp on the photo shows it was taken later that night after the police left, supposedly when the aliens had come back and started walking on the roof. It’s possible Angel had simply forgotten to take the photo earlier, or the police didn’t want him taking pictures while they were there, but he still wanted to document the circle for himself. But why would he go outside at the time the aliens had returned to frighten the family?

As well there was a ring camera video uploaded by some stranger in the neighbourhood where you could see a flash of light, followed by a loud bang. Angel had provided a link to this video saying it was evidence of someone else capturing the events of the fireball landing in his back yard. Yet the time stamp on this video shows it was taken at least a month before May 1st.

The neighbour’s recollection of events was a mixed bag. Some say they heard the bang from the fireball landing, other didn’t. A few said they had trouble with their electronics, television and internet signals that night. No one else saw aliens. And many residents say they didn’t even know about anything happening until Angel told them about it.

The Tik Tok video is underwhelming. It supposedly shows the aliens, but whatever is seen is very indistinct and only visible for a few frames. There are three points in the video where people say you can see aliens. The most famous of which is the alien right behind the fence, only feet away and seemingly looking at the family as they enter the gate. The alien’s head can be seen in the top right of the video and there’s some movement behind the fence. However the ‘head’ is an indistinct blurry blob that shows no details. It could be the aliens cloaking themselves, or it could be not an alien. Interestingly, a forensic video analysis was done by Scott Roder, a professional video analyst who works for law enforcement. He determined that the video had not been edited in any way. As well, the blurry indistinct thing said to be the alien’s head is actually in the environment and not an artifact in the file. So there’s that at least.

There’s also some movement that can be seen over the shoulders of the father and the brother when they enter the gate, like an alien ducking down behind one of the cars. But this things is only a few pixels large and only appearing in a few frames. It’s much too small and fast to make any definitive judgments.

And finally, there’s the end of the video where the mother focuses on the forklift, where the alien or aliens are supposedly hiding. I can’t see anything here. I’ve seen multiple different outlines drawn over still frames of the video of where the aliens are supposed to be and I can’t see them. Maybe it was more obvious to see in real life, but didn’t translate to video well? I don’t know.

If this was all there was to go on, an inconsistent story, a blurry Tik Tok video, and a ring in the gravel that had been there for a year, I would write the whole thing off as a hoax. However the response by law enforcement and Homeland Security is just bizarre, and makes me think there is something to this case after all. Why was Homeland Security even involved? They don’t send their anti-terrorist unit out just to investigate shit posts about alien hoaxes. What’s going on here? If the family was involved in something unrelated that would justify Homeland Security’s attention then they would lay low, not shine a spot line on themselves with alien stories. Besides, Homeland Security only had eyes on the Kenmore family after May 1st, so it had to be related to the alien incident, making it more credible.

One of the first people to seriously investigate the events was Paul Poppa. He is a former New York police officer, turned private investigator. He hosts a podcast focusing on police corruption and wrongful arrests. Paul Poppa is a skeptic and believes that Angel’s story about aliens and the hauntings that followed is a hoax, and has pointed out how inconsistent Angel is with his retellings. Paul got involved with this case because of the way the police were handling it, and the involvement of Homeland Security. It’s notable to point out that Paul Poppa has never covered a fortean case on his podcast before this and has never done another one, focusing solely on more down to earth matters. While he does have a disbelieving, skeptical outlook, he doesn’t go around debunking UFO cases.

Some of the weird things surrounding this case:

The Las Vegas police had closed this case soon after May 1st, not turned it over to Homeland Security.

The camera on the post had been put up by people in police uniform and Angel believed it was put their by Las Vegas police to aid in their ongoing investigation (which didn’t exist), but was actually placed there by Homeland Security.

It’s likely the two ‘police officers’ who returned to the home later and took the clothing from the night of the incident where likely agents from Homeland Security as well.

The 16 minutes of body cam footage while the police were in the back yard was missing, and according to Paul, likely deleted entirely. The official police statement on the matter was that is showed private property and showing that video would be an invasion of privacy. Paul pointed out this is not a typical police policy. As well, from all the body cam videos I’ve seen they never cut out private property, including inside people’s homes.

Paul also pointed out numerous errors and mishandling of paper work.

Another thing to note, when the woman from Homeland Security called Angel to get Paul’s licence plate she did it right in front of Paul. It would have made more sense to contact Angel earlier before Paul returned and then gotten him to remember the license plate and call her back after he left. Calling while he was there talking to Angel must have been an attempt to scare Paul off the case.

It really raises questions when police cut out evidence and Homeland Security gets involved in a nothing-burger of a case like this. Likely this case is an example of the Streisand effect. If the authorities had not gotten involved as they did that Angel’s own consistencies would have sank the case and no one would care today. So why did they get involved? Was it just because it became popular so fast, or is there actually something to this case after all?

While I have been overall critical of this case, there are some things that debunkers have latched onto which I think are unfair. First, they say that the haunting occurring afterwards and Angel switching from calling the entities aliens to demons shows that he was making up things to further the story. But in many unrelated fortean cases, involving seemingly corporeal things like aliens and cryptids end up having paranormal aspects or events that seem related to hauntings attached to them. It’s something that both Jacque Vallee and John Keel pointed out.

Second, during the interview with Inside Addition the reporter got Angel and his father to draw the aliens they saw. The dissimilarities between the two drawings have been used by skeptics to say the family was making things up. Yet to me the drawings don’t look that different from each other. They both show tall skinny aliens, drawn by non-artists, who will inevitably have a mistake filled and indistinct drawing because of that. The two things people point out the most is that the father’s drawings have an alien with two glowing antennas, while Angel’s drawing has a single orb floating next to the alien’s head. You have to remember, these aliens were seen in the dark of night, while actively trying to hide behind things, and may have had cloaking devices. I doubt they were seen clearly. As well Angel drew an alien with a broken leg and the father didn’t, but there were multiple aliens there that night, so their drawings probably focused on different individuals.

And finally, people have also questioned why there was a 45 minute gap between the fireball landing and Angel calling the police. Considering all the things that happened in that amount of time, I think 45 minutes is reasonable. Angel and his brother went into the back yard, got scared out by the aliens, went inside and had to convince their parents that something was even happening, waited for the noises from the back yard to start, go out into the back yard with their family and then run back inside.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, how do I feel about this case. I honestly don’t know what to think. Angel is an unreliable witness who’s done everything possible to sabotage his case. However why was Homeland Security even involved if it wasn’t real? And if it was determined the blurry thing in the video was actually in the environment then what was it? I think this is why this case rose to such prominence. It at the same time dispels itself and leave lingering questions.
